A Dove Named Noah

This is one of those sweet stories that ya' just HAVE to repeat...  Hope y'all will enjoy it as much as I did...

       Noah the Dove

These little bunnies, about 6 days old, were attacked by a dog and orphaned. Two out of the litter of five did not survive, and these three were not doing very well.

Noah is a non-releasable, one-legged homing pigeon/rock dove that is in the rehab centre. Noah kept going over to the bunny cage and looking in -- even sleeping in front of the door to the cage.

Then, suddenly, there were only two bunnies in the cage.  But when Noah moved a bit from the front of the cage to everyone's surprise...there was the tiny bunny...under Noah's wing...sound asleep! That little bunny rabbit had crawled through the cage, preferring a featherbed, no doubt to snuggling up with its litter mates!

Now, they are all together and the bunnies are doing GREAT. When the bunnies scoot underneath Noah's feathers, he carefully extends his wings out to surround them and then they snuggle. When one of them moves and they start sticking out here and there, he gently pushes them back under him with his beak!  It is beautiful and amazing to see...

Update on Noah:

We are Bob and Georganne Lenham of Wild Rose Rescue Ranch in  Texas , home of Noah the Pigeon.
After finding many posts online featuring Noah and the bunnies and reading about the many lives he has touched (his story has been forwarded around the world) we thought we'd post a follow-up and a few new photos.
We knew there was something special about Noah the moment we saw him.
Although the bunnies seem to be his favorite, Noah helps out with many rescue babies here at the Wild Rose Rescue Ranch...
Noah's first litter of bunnies, almost raised and  ready for release.

Now, Noah helps out with many rescue babies here at the ranch...
How wonderful it is to have a full-time soft-feathered nurturer here at the rescue ranch! He cuddles with all the babies as they snuggle under his warm feathers...and he "coos" as if singing them to sleep with a lullaby.
Noah is truly, truly a God-send.

He will cover you with His feathers
And under His wings you will find refuge.

The Peacock Necklace

I am wearing "the peacock necklace" today.  The necklace doesn't really look like a peacock;  it's a large pendant, strung on several strands of black and crystal beads.  The pendant has the fluorescent blues and greens of a peacock. It is handmade, a one-of-a-kind, special. Someone I once knew gave it to me... a girly gift from one girly-girl to another... When my friend gave me the necklace, she wrapped it in a long thin box, and included a peacock feather along with a note that read something like this: "Hi.  I am a peacock necklace. Wear me whenever you are feeling a bit low or when you are lacking in self-confidence.  I will be a reminder to you that you are more beautiful than a peacock, and that you are loved by the one who gave me to you."

Now, years later, I can't find that  narrow box; nor, can I locate the feather or the note... Perhaps they are packed away in some obscure drawer or perched on a high closet shelf amongst other sentimental treasures..

I can't seem to find the friend who gave me the necklace, either.  How sad  that we have come to this - having known and loved each other, only to lose track of tine, allow miles and schedules and miscellany to all but erase a friendship. Even so, I am wearing the peacock necklace today.  A reminder that deep down I am pretty, even if not another soul on earth vocalizes it.  A reminder that I am valuable, even when it doesn't seem so.  A reminder that another day will dawn, and that "this too shall pass."

If A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words...

Yessiree.  That old saying is a good one.  But, even when it's a good picture, people like me just have to make a little more comment...at the very least, a caption for each.  So, here are a few:   Some are repeat photos, most are new:
Peep and Chicken Little;  or, is it Arnold Schwartzeneger and
 Danny DeVito?
(Twins, separated at birth)

"Do these feathers make my butt look big?"

"Honey, I think the oven needs to be a little warmer before I put the biscuits in."

"Sheessh... Can't a girl have a little privacy while she's settin'?
What? Were you born in a barn?"

"We are big roosters, and we WILL attack you!"

"Oh, brother... yet another lower life form has invaded my space."

"Uh, I'm keepin' the bed warm for ya' "

"Bookends - Ebony and Ivory"
"I luv you, Mommy and Daddy"
" Get that #%^* thing off of me! Who the *@# do you think you are?"

"Wow, thanks! What a nice buffet!"
"The Grim Reaper with his Ice Sickle"
"The  beard contest"
"Oh, I always dress like this when I'm gardening..."

Okay, that's fourteen photos - one for each day of this year!  I don't think  y'all could take much more than that.  Hope you've enjoyed my little bit of silliness.

Update on the Peeps

Me, feeding three chicks in a saucer,  10/20/10 = 18 days ago

The  peeps - that is, the six that Pretty Face refused to adopt - have graduated to a cage on the the screened-in porch. The other three remain in the little chicken condo with Pretty Face.  All the peeps are growing beautiful colorful feathers which change on a daily basis;  they are growing up!  The six that were indoors with us are still very human-friendly.  When we open the cage to give food or water, they fly out and onto our arms and shoulders.  Yesterday, we had out of town visitors who got to witness them doing just that!  It was very humorous;  they ALL flew onto Moshe... He was covered with little chickens.
A couple weeks ago three chicks could stand on one saucer and eat their mash (as per photo to left).  Today, one chick would be too much for a saucer.
And, so it goes.  The cycle of life. Fast.  Way too fast for lil' ol' me!  Before ya' know it, they will be out in the new chicken coop, providing us with more eggs and more peeps.  I only hope that they continue to enjoy our company the way they do now.
