Don't Let Your Life Slip Away

"Lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth.
He who gathers crops in summer is a wise man, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son."
                                                     Proverbs 10:4,5

Every day has 24 hours in it.  Hours filled with opportunities to grow and to be productive. Yet, it is so easy to waste time, allowing our very life to slip away.  Refuse to be a spiritually lazy person, frittering away time and talent.  Don't let your life slip away.

Our Newest Addition

Just a posting, short and sweet, to introduce the newest member of the Ben-David household:  Pickles.

Pickles was adopted from the Humane Society Friday March 11th, and brought home to join Moshe, Twyla, CassPurr, Moxie and Beau. Pickles is a very active, very funny kitten about 8 months old.  He has already brought us lots of laughs.  He loves to play with fingers and toes, teases Moxie and CassPurr with his antics, sleeps nuzzled either by my side or in Moshe's beard! He prefers my home made dog food to the storebought cat food that CassPurr eats,  so he now had his very own little bowl for just that!  He likes to watch the toilet flush,  and he loves to watch TV! (Don't bother asking, Pickles... Moshe will never give up the remote!)

Ode to Lil Bit

My lil' bit, my baby goat,

How soft and shiny is your coat.

Gone is the click of your hooves on my linoleum floor,
And the loud cry of "Ma-ah-ah-mie" when I walked in the door.

The covers are cold where your warm body once laid,
And now only a shadow where at my feet you once played.

Fed by my hand, I watched you grow tall,
"Going forth and skipping like calves from the stall."

To Moxie and Casspurr, you were their baby to preen,
Such a sight in your diaper to keep my house clean!.

I loved you, I held you, you were my "baby-boo",
But I know someday you'll be the STAR of the petting Zoo!

My dear friend, Teresa Harding, wrote the above poem for me yesterday... emailed it to me today.  Just last weekend my parents made the two-hour drive up to the mountains to meet Lil Bit.  One must ask oneself ," How could a little baby goat make such an impact on so many people?"  Read on...

You see, as I have been caring for Lil Bit, I've been thinking about the Passover Lamb.  God - through Moses - instructed His people to take a lamb into their home and care for it for four days... This was so that a bond would be created between the family and the lamb.  Then, they had to sacrifice the lamb and put its blood on the sides and top of their doorway.  This would prevent the angel of death from stopping at their home, and it is a foreshadowing of blood atonement, sacrifices in the temple,  and, the ultimate Sacrifice and atonement of sin - Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
I am sure that each family's love for their little lamb made sacrificing it very difficult.  But, God was showing His people what He was going to do and how great the sacrifice would be when His Son became the Ultimate Passover Lamb.

"... God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life."  John 3:16

Hello From the Dog...

A friend sent me this email today.  It's so reflective of how  a dog must feel. I'm adding photos, etc. Again, as is with so many emails, I wish I knew who originally wrote it so that I could give them credit.

Dear God: It's me, the Dog

Dear God:  Is it on purpose that our names are the same, only reversed?

Dear God:  Why do humans smell the flowers, but seldom, if ever, smell one another?

Dear God:  When we get to Heaven, can we sit on your couch?  Or will it be the same old story?

Dear God:  Why are there cars named after the jaguar, the cougar, the mustang, the colt, the stingray, and the rabbit, but not ONE named for a Dog? How often do you see a cougar riding around? We love a nice car ride! Would it be so hard to rename the 'Chrysler Eagle' the 'Chrysler Beagle'?

Dear God:  If a Dog barks his head off in the forest and no human hears him, is he still a bad Dog?

Dear God: We Dogs can understand human verbal instructions, hand signals, whistles, horns, clickers, beepers, scent IDs, electromagnetic energy fields, and Frisbee flight paths. What do humans understand?

Dear God:  More meatballs, less spaghetti, please.

Dear God:  Are there mailmen in Heaven? If there are, will I have to apologize?

Dear God:  Here is a list of just some of the things I must remember to be a good Dog:

1. I will not eat the cat's food before he eats it or after he throws it up.

2. I will not roll on dead seagulls, fish, crabs, etc., just because I like the way they smell.
3. The Litter Box is not a cookie jar.

4. The sofa is not a 'face towel'.

5. The garbage collector is not stealing our stuff.

6. I will not play tug-of-war with Dad's underwear when he's on the toilet.

7.  Sticking my nose into someones crotch is an unacceptable way of saying 'hello'.

8. I don't need to suddenly stand straight up when I'm under the coffee table.

9. I must shake the rainwater out of my fur before entering the house - not after.

10. I will not come in from outside, and immediately drag my butt across the carpet.

11. I will not sit in the middle of the living room, and lick my crotch.

12. The cat is not a 'squeaky toy', so when I play with him and he makes that noise,
it's usually not a good thing.

P.S.  Dear God: When I get to Heaven, may I have my testicles back?
