We Need A WHAT???

KATIE COURIC: ‘WE NEED A MUSLIM VERSION OF THE COSBY SHOW’ from The Blaze on Vimeo.

I don't usually write about politics; I leave that to my hubby.  But, this video just BEGGED for comment...
Poor Katie Couric;  she thinks we could all just live happily ever after if only we terrible Americans could be more tolerant of the Muslims;  if only we didn't have such "bigotry against the Muslims";  if only we would take the time to understand the Muslims;  if only...
Of course, once you've seen this video, you realize that NONE of the people on this particular discussion panel had any idea what Islam is about!  The self-proclaimed "smart"  man sitting next to Katie admitted that he knows nothing about Islam!  (Thus, the intelligent question would be, "Why then is he discussing the topic???" On TV!  Sheesh! ) He repeats himself, saying, "I'm pretty smart", then, goes on to look and sound the fool.  And, nobody on the panel says anything.  They just nod  like bobble-headed animals in the back of a 1972 station wagon.
So then Ms Couric  states that what we need is a Muslim version of the Cosby Show, "because we learned so much more about  the African-Americans from  Cosby."  She and her cohorts dismiss the idea that it might be offensive to the REST OF US to have a mosque at the site of  9/11.  Poor Katie;  she couldn't even get out the term "ground zero", instead, tripping over her own subconscious desire to refer to the site as "9/11."
But, okay.  Let's suppose "they" create a series... a "Muslim Cosby Show."  Of course,  there would have to be a very limited number of episodes...  Let's see. . here's the cast...

  • the father-figure:  AchMed UpSett  - played by  ????? (hmmm, maybe Mr-I'm-A-Smart-Guy would do it?)
  • his wife:  Subserv UpSett    - played by anybody who happens to be standing around; what with the  burka and all, why pay an actress?
  • their oldest child:  Sondra Kendall  - played by an unknown actress;  she is only in one episode because she married Martin Kendall an infidel;  in this first episode  she is stoned to death and her husband beheaded.
  • the next oldest daughter:   Denise       - the "wild" daughter.  Because she is artistic, likes interesting clothes, far-out hairdos, and extreme make-up,, she is ostracized from her family.  Her story is the second episode, and then she is done with the series.  Once again, any known or unknown actress will do for this "cameo appearance".
  • the son, Theo AchMed UpSett: Theo gets to be in several episodes. The stoning episode, the ostracism episode, the circumcision episode, the suicide bombing.... ah, but I'm getting ahead of myself...
  • the next daughter, Vanessa UpSett: This is the 'good girl" of the show.  She only speaks when spoken to, and that is seldom, what with the activity of stoning, etc.  She wears the burka 24/7, and submits to anyone and everyone...She is the star of the final episode, wherein her father straps several bombs under her burka, and she explodes them at the local mall, proving once and for all that she is a good, loving Muslim. Gee, I wonder what actress would want to play this role?
  • The youngest daughter, Rudy: Rudy only gets to be in one episode.  She dies of bleeding complications when the father performs a female circumcision, and botches it.

Okay, I count 5 episodes.  A short-lived series, to say the least.  I wonder if Katie Couric would like to be the director.  Or, maybe it would be better if the "I'm pretty smart" man directed the show.
No need for reruns;  just turn on CNN, the CBS nightly news, NBC news, etc., and you can see these episodes played in real living color!
Anyhow, now that we are up to "snuff" on the Muslims, how 'bout the news folks talk about something they are actually educated about?

Shalom  Y'all - AND  I  MEAN  IT!

  1. For the lead character: Danny Glover, Al Sharpton, Abrahim Hooper, in that order.

Michelle Obama should play the wife. She would probably get better press coverage that way.

  2. Oikophobia used to be synonymous with wanderlust; now it is more popularly viewed as an exact opposite of xenophobia. Fear of what is similar & familiar, versus fear of what is alien and different. Couric has shown herself to be both -- a xenophobe overcompensating for xenophobia by means of an exuberant and exaggerated oikophobia.

Me, I'm a white dude, so if Couric is right then Cosby should have made my attitudes toward black people more sophisticated, more pacific, more agreeable. But it didn't do that. I never even got a glimmer of insight it was supposed to have done that, until I read her nonsense. Part of the reason might have been that my family & I had been listening to Cosby's material for decades before his comedy show ever aired, and we enjoyed it thoroughly.

And really, when you ponder it for a minute or two, the idea that something becomes less threatening just because you're exposed to more of it, is quite irrational. Almost phobic. Xenophobic. Note, please, Couric's argument rests entirely on this premise. But meanwhile, to those who live in New York who lost friends & family to the 9/11 attacks, I'm doubting like the dickens a fun, light, giggly Muslim version of "Cosby show" would make 'em feel any warmer or fuzzier toward anyone, certainly not toward the murderers who orchestrated the slaughter of their loved ones.

Katie Couric is exactly what she calls others. Calling out friend & foe based on silly, cosmetic, skin-deep characteristics, ignoring the larger picture. She's a certifiable airhead. And two years ago, she just got done choosing our nation's leaders. The part she played in the process was not a marginal one by any means.
